Listen, all people, with your ears to another unique account — it brings intoxication of joy to the heart, so listen attentively, all of you. Great devotees of Hari, whose bodies are devoted to austerity, embodiments of renunciation and dispassion, whose minds are fixed on discipline — the day Maharaj met them, their inclination for worldly things fell away, and the whole world became distasteful to their hearts. They held their mother, father, family, and relations in complete indifference, and worshipped Shri Bhagwan, abandoning all other delights.

Blessed is the devotee of Hari, Jivu Bai, and the pure Raj Bai. The day they met the Lord of their lives, Swami Sahajanand, the mine of happiness, from that day they gave up bodily comfort and lovingly took up worship of Bhagwan. Let me relate in detail what happened as they worshipped Hari.

Jivu Bai became a devotee of Hari and began worshipping the form of Hari. Her father said, "Listen, daughter, what is this you have taken up in your childhood? When you grow older, daughter, you may worship — we shall be pleased then." Jivu Bai replied, "Father, do not say such a thing to me. There is no trust to be placed in this body — it may perish suddenly at any time. To wait for old age is not something I can accept. So do not speak of this — this form is not one to be set aside."

Then the father thought: what wonder might there be in this? "When I see something extraordinary, then it will be believed in my heart." As time passed thus, he came to wish for such a wonder. Evening fell, and Jivu Bai performed the arti with great devotion; then, filling a cup with milk, she offered it lovingly to Hari to drink. Then Balmukund Maharaj drank the milk out of love for the devotee. Seeing this, all were astonished, and they bowed their heads at Jivu Bai's feet.

Even the father, though displeased, bowed again and again: "Blessed, daughter, is your devotion — I did not recognize its true nature in my foolishness. I now understand you are no mere mortal — you are divine, this is proven today. You have taken incarnation here; there is no limit to my merit." Thus the Lord of the World gave wonders continually to Jivu Bai.

Whatever divine play the Imperishable One performs, however far it may be, it appears near; wherever Hari is, though a hundred kos away, he always appears present. Whatever action Hari performs, Jivu Bai knows all of it — her vision was truly unveiled, and her other wonders too were without limit; she knew even the hearts of others, by Maharaj's grace.

Now hear of Raj Bai's way, pure and most sacred. The day Shri Maharaj met her, from that day she gave up worldly regard. The Lord sent her a message: "Your devotion pleases me, but you must accept one condition — worship Shri Bhagwan after marrying. Accept our command this time, or you will be barred from satsang." Such was the word that came to her, and she suffered in body and mind because of it.

Then her mother, father, and family together arranged her marriage; married, she was sent off to her husband's home, and she came to her in-laws' village. When her husband saw her form, it appeared to him like that of a lion; seeing this, the man fled back, terror gripping his mind. "This is certainly no mortal woman — some divine incarnation with a purpose. So take her back quickly, if you wish good for me."

Then the woman returned to her parents' home, having taken enmity toward worldly pleasure. She at once gave up fine clothes and ornaments upon her body, gave up all such contact. She gave up eating rich, sweet, well-prepared food, and gave up sleeping on cots, seats, and beds, sleeping instead upon the ground. Through such severe austerity she wasted her body, burning away flesh and blood; she subdued her body and mind so greatly that her family could not bear to watch.

Then her family abandoned her for this; she kept no practice of food or water at all. In this way she worshipped Bhagwan, keeping the greatest vows. What can be said in words of the greatness of Shri Maharaj's power? Thus he looks after his devotees — great indeed is Hari's glory.

Let me tell of another day when Hari helped his devotees — know this story. The Lord had gone to Kariyani; hearing this, three girls set off for darshan, tender and young in age. No other elder accompanied them; the three girls set off with a child's simple understanding.

Leaving the village and the fields, thirst overtook them, with no water at hand. Hard thorns pricked their feet, and sharp gravel dug into them. In this great distress their spirits sank, with scarcely any strength left in their bodies. At that moment Maharaj arrived, to relieve the girls' distress. He brought water in a vessel and gave it to them to drink, relieving their thirst and fear; he himself removed the thorns from their feet, becoming their guide along the road ahead.

He gave them sweets and gave them water to drink, and slowly, slowly they came to Kariyani. He said, "Go, girls, into the village — Swami Sahajanandji is there. You are but five or six years old, and for your sake we walked along with you. Now go happily into the village, and do not keep any fear in your minds."

Then the three girls together fell at Maharaj's feet, bowing low. Then the Lord asked them, "With whom did you come here?" They said, "A Brahmin came with us, and served us greatly along the way — he gave us sweets and water to drink, and pulled the thorns from our feet, and brought us safely here; otherwise we would have lost our way somewhere." Then Maharaj said, "It was I who did this — why do you not recognize me? I gave you the signs of the road; you were suffering greatly from thirst, and I gave you water and sweets, which the three of you took together."

Saying this, Maharaj laughed, having thus accomplished his own devotees' need. Thus Hari gave his help, and all present were filled with wonder in their minds. The girl who was brought to Kariyani village was named Pachu, little Ramu. Thus he gives joy to his devotees, the bliss-giving Swami Sahajanand.
