Victory, victory, sing the sages his glory! Victory, victory to the lord and hero of Nar!

Victory, victory to the king of Badri! How can your virtues be told?

Victory, Nrihari, Vamana, Lord! Victory, Parashuram, Raghunath!

Victory, merciful Haladhar, Krishna! Victory, kind Buddha and Kalki!

Victory, indescribable incarnation! Victory, unfathomable support of all!

Taking on such countless forms, the two heroes sit beneath the Badri tree, remaining always in ascetic garb, matted locks crowning their beautiful heads,

holding staff and water-pot, wearing deerskin, marked with the sacred vertical tilak and rosary of beads, wearing the sacred thread of purity, ever the two brothers remain celibate ascetics.

Ocean of happiness, embodiment of peace, merciful, matchless friend of the humble -- victory, giver of happiness to your own people, victory, brothers Nar-Narayan!

Victory, unbreakable, utterly undivided! Victory, form of unfathomable power!

Victory, of exceeding, great radiance! Victory, ageless, deathless, endless one!

Victory, ocean of virtues, Govind! Victory, beautiful, free, dark one!

Victory, destroyer of the bonds of your servants! Victory, un-illusioned, imperishable one!

Victory, the very life-breath of your own people! Victory, form of great happiness, mountain of bliss!

So the sages together proclaimed, and the cry of victory resounded there.

Having offered such praise, the assembly of sages, beholding the Lord, attained great joy; having sung his praise and bowed full-length before him, the longing of their hearts was fulfilled.

Then they sat beside him with joined hands, their inner vision illumined; by the grace of Shri Narayan, their consciousness turned inward.

They beheld the wondrous Akshardham and were filled with joy at that sight; they saw there a mass of radiance, and within it a magnificent throne.

Seated upon it they beheld the one of many names, the master of Akshardham, an exceedingly beautiful, glorious form, dark and delightful, the abode of splendor.

Beholding him they attained bliss, blooming like the lily under the moon; then when they looked outward again, they beheld that very same form once more.

As they had seen him in Akshardham, so they saw him seated before them now; this indeed is the work of Narayan -- in this there is nothing strange.

Then they touched his feet with joined hands, and the Lord spoke in a sweet voice: O sages, you are welcome; seeing you, we are pleased.

We had longed for the sight of you, O king of sages; meeting you is rare for us, not attained through little merit.

Even the abodes called Goloka and the rest are sought after through the accomplishment of yoga; yet you, sages, are dearer to me than even that -- believe this to be entirely true.

Even Shiva, Brahma and others offer sacrifice and perform service to me; they too are dear to me, but you are my very soul.

Day and night you contemplate me, and through your knowledge and teaching you liberate souls; japa, austerity, yoga and sacrifice, vows and other merits --

all of these together do not equal even a sixteenth part of what you do; therefore this is called the gift of fearlessness, and nothing else compares to it.

Therefore I know you to be devoted to the highest truth, and my pure devotees besides; there is none like you -- what more can be said with the mouth of a sage?

So says the poet: listen, wise ones, thus spoke the voice of Narayan, words full of deep affection, spoken with grace by the lotus-eyed Lord.

Then the sages spoke in praise: blessed, blessed, O Lord, master of our life! Blessed is the incarnation of the hero Nar, who has redeemed so many souls!

Blessed is the manifest full moon, who gives joy to his own people! Blessed is the merciful Bhagwan, friend of the humble, humbler of the pride of the greatly wicked!

Blessed is the one who is both Nar and Narayan -- rare indeed is one who understands this mystery! Blessed is your unfathomable power, a marvel of the two brothers!

Blessed, giver of happiness to all beings, remover of the suffering of the humble! You remain in this abode for the sake of caring for all souls.

Now, O Lord, we say to you -- tell us whatever should be said. So saying, with joined hands, the sages spoke; then the Lord replied to them.

Sages, you travel through the three worlds as you please -- tell us, from which world have you now come, and what news have you brought?

Then the sages said with joined hands: we have come, Lord, having seen Bharatkhand (India). Then Narayan said: sages, all are my own people --

the four castes and the four stages of life, all live according to their own dharma; devotion, righteousness, knowledge, and detachment -- how much love do they have for these?

Tell me truly, sages, of all the people of Bharatkhand. Hearing the Lord's words, all the sages lowered their eyes.

Tears filled their eyes, and great sorrow filled their hearts; their voices choked, and after composing themselves, they spoke slowly.

Listen, Narayan, brother of Nar -- that condition cannot even be told; the four castes and the four stages of life have abandoned their own dharma.

False gurus have shown the wrong path, declaring unrighteousness to be righteousness; kings, grown mad with excess, have destroyed true dharma.

They themselves commit sin without limit, and the people follow their example; men and women hold to no discipline -- what more can be said of their wickedness?

Seeing this, O king of sages, we too are grieved, O Maharaj. So saying, they wept; listen, all of you, to what follows.

Thus ends the sixth chapter, named 'The Praise of Nar-Narayan,' in the Bhaktachintamani composed by the disciple Nishkulanand Muni of Shri Sahajanand Swami, propagator of the path of Ekantik Dharma.
