- એક જાતની કૂંઢી ભેંસ. તેનું દૂધ એટલું મીઠું હોય છે કે તેમાં સાકર ન નાખવી પડે તેમ હોઈને તેને સાકર કહે છે. વધુ + | એક જાતની મીઠી વસ્તુ; ગોળ કે ખાંડને ધોઈને પાડેલા પાસાદાર ગાંગડા. તેની પતરી, દોમ, ખડી સાકર, કુજા મીસરી એવી ઘણી જાતો છે; ખાંડમાંથી બનેલ પહેલદાર પાસાવાળા ગાંગડા. સાકરથી પહેલવહેલા ગ્રીસીયનો હિંદુઓ પાસેથી જાણીતા થયા. સાકરનું નામ `શુગર` એ સંસ્કૃતમાંથી નીકળેલું છે. આ વસ્તુ સાથે એ નામ અરેબિયા તથા ઈરાનમાં પ્રવેશ્યું અને ત્યાંથી યુરોપની ભાષામાં પ્રવેશ્યું. વધુ +
