And as for this jiva, just as he himself is bound and incapable, in the same way, his father is also bound and incapable. Therefore, what help can that father give to the son? Hence, his connection with the deep-sleep-like Maya remains constant; it is not removed. It is only when, as described before, he constantly contemplates his illuminator, Brahma, The deep-sleep-like connection... what is that sentence? 'His connection with the deep-sleep-like Maya remains constant.' What does that mean? Delusion. Delusion is like deep sleep. Deep sleep is of two types: one is physical deep sleep and the other is mental deep sleep. That is, 'I am like this, I am handsome, I am like this, I am wise'—all such delusion is deep sleep. It does not allow him to search for the original thing. One who has believed in his mind that 'I am wiser than everyone,' then then will it allow him to search for what wisdom is? That is, he has believed that 'I am wise,' but he himself does not know what wisdom is called. So that is called delusion. 'I am better than everyone' is a dense form of delusion. So that is deep sleep. He may be awake, walking around, and is it only when he is walking around or is it always? Is 'I am good' present when he is asleep, or is it 'I am sleeping very well'? Only when he is walking around does he think, 'I am better than everyone.' 'I am better than everyone'—he compares himself with whoever he meets. 'I am better than him, I am better than him, I am better than...' Better than ten people, meaning 'I am better than everyone.' That is delusion, and it is the deep sleep of delusion; otherwise, if he were awake, he would... What did Maharaj say in this? That in all three periods of time, his connection with delusion is never removed. Again, what sentence came? Look, read it. His delusion of deep sleep. 'Therefore, his connection with the deep-sleep-like Maya remains constant.' It remains constant. It remains whether he is awake or asleep. The connection of deep sleep remains constant. And that is delusion. Delusion is active even when asleep, and it is more active when awake. When does delusion become active? When does delusion become active? It only happens when awake, right? How can it be active when asleep? When asleep, he is just lying there. It becomes active when he wakes up. As soon as he wakes up, delusion becomes active. Therefore, sleep—his connection with deep sleep—is delusion. It is a delusion-like deep sleep. 'Ya nisha sarva-bhutanam tasyam jagrati sanyami, yasyam jagrati bhutani sa nisha pashyato muneh.' Yasyam jagrati sanyami. Therefore, his connection with the deep-sleep-like Maya remains constant; it is not removed. It is only when, as described before, he constantly associates with his illuminator, Brahma, through contemplation, that it is removed. These five entities are eternally distinct, but Maharaj is supreme, and as long as Maharaj does not enter, no one else is capable of doing anything. Only after Maharaj enters do actions become possible in them. Maharaj said to contemplate. This Vachanamrut is about associating with Brahma through contemplation. This jiva only listens. He listens for 10 hours and does not contemplate even for an hour. Suppose we have had a discourse, say we have read this Vachanamrut. After standing up, throughout the whole day, no contemplation occurred. In reality, what is the rule for it? Huh? Listen for 1 hour and contemplate for 10 hours. Contemplate for 10 hours and perform nididhyas for 100 hours. Then one attains realization. We listen for 10 hours and do not contemplate even for an hour. It is the reverse. How much discourse do you listen to? A lot of discourse. Keep the earphones in your ears all day long. Now, the earphones are in the ears all day long. But what came out of it? Huh? Nothing. Here, suppose you ask someone about this Vachanamrut. What did you understand? What is the reason for that? What is the reason for that? You do not want to sit and contemplate. There is no need to listen to so much discourse as much as there is a need to contemplate. In contemplation, it is fine even if you do not put earphones in your ears. In listening, you have to keep earphones in your ears. And the question remains whether you get time or not. But who contemplates how much? Huh? Contemplation... we do not even contemplate this Vachanamrut. We do not want to go and contemplate too much anywhere. This is the Vachanamrut, the whole book is there. Maharaj simply says that much: what is in this Vachanamrut? What is in this Vachanamrut? In a whole lifetime, not even one book is contemplated. In a whole lifetime. Where is the question of more? Even the Shikshapatri is not contemplated. Maharaj did write in the Shikshapatri, 'Hold it with a single-pointed mind.' Hold it with a single-pointed mind. So if we ask someone in this, 'Brother, how many shlokas are written on the duties of a sadhu?' Speak one or two shlokas. That is, in Gujarati only, no question of Sanskrit. No question of Sanskrit. Speak one or two shlokas, in Gujarati. They would not know. They read daily, but there is no contemplation. If one contemplates, then one gets the fruit. 'Atma va are drashtavyah shrotavyo mantavyo nididhyasitavyah.' One has to do it ten times more. He listens once, and as the 'tal-tumdi' analogy goes, right? Once he learns a sutra, then until a small gourd is filled with sesame seeds, he has to memorize it. If he contemplates that much, then it sinks within. If he contemplates 100 times, he listens once and contemplates 10 times. And what has been contemplated 10 times, he performs its practical nididhyas 100 times. He practices it 100 times. Then it happens. Then, and if he holds it in his mind a thousand times, then he attains that realization. So who contemplates? Even those with spiritual desire might not do it, even after becoming a sadhu. We have become sadhus, so we have taken this garb so that, come on, we will achieve something great by taking this garb. We will achieve something great—when we take the garb, there is so much enthusiasm that we are going to achieve something great. But now, even they have no leisure. They have no leisure to contemplate. In what? Just as mentioned in the previous Vachanamrut, in this one too. There is deep sleep, and its constant association remains. The connection remains. In deep sleep, he does not become free from the body. He does not become free from 'I and mine' and conflict, jealousy, envy. Who stops you from contemplating? Huh? Who stops you from contemplating? If you want to read a discourse, then someone might stop you, saying, 'Come on, if I have this many duties, what can we do? If we have this many duties, what can we do?' Who stops you from contemplating? If anything stops you, it might be the phone. When on the phone, contemplation cannot be done. While performing other duties or seva, contemplation can be done. When on the phone... if you have a phone, can contemplation be done? Then, the one who is contemplating would give the answer itself. That Vasudev Narayan entered. The other would ask, 'Where?' But even in eating, there is the entry of Vasudev Narayan. Maharaj said in this to associate with Brahma through contemplation. And through contemplation, to settle all of this properly in the jiva. The points and principles that Maharaj stated in the Vachanamrut, one should associate with them through contemplation. Then all of this fits well; otherwise, it does not fit. And that is something you do not want to do at all. Maharaj says that if one contemplates and reflects, then one attains constant remembrance of Bhagwan. One attains vairagya from the world. One develops extraordinary love for Bhagwan. He said all of that. If one contemplates. But contemplation is only about 'he is coming and he is coming, he is coming and he is coming'—only that is contemplated. Now, in that, if he comes, then this person becomes like him. One becomes like what one contemplates, right? One becomes like what one contemplates. Maharaj has given this much talk in this. Because the whole talk is difficult—where is that Purush Purush 1) An akshar-mukta selected by Akshar-Brahm to ‘impregnate’ Prakruti for the creation process, from which countless pairs of Pradhãn and Purush are formed for the creation and sustenance of each brahmãnd. 2) Purush half of the Pradhãn-Purush pair, ‘conceived’ by Mul-Purush and Mul-Prakruti for the creation and sustenance of each brahmãnd. 3) Taken to be masculine in nature, Purush is the controller of Prakruti, and is also distinct from her. Even if it is a good talk or an easy talk, even that is not contemplated. At most, what do all those who are great devotees do? They keep the earphones of discourses in their ears. They keep the earphones of discourses in their ears. After the discourse, they do not let even a single earphone remain in their jiva. They do not let any earphone enter their jiva; they keep earphones in their ears. While walking around, they keep earphones in their ears.
