But there is a story in the Upanishads.
That IndraIndraThe king of the devs. He resides in Svarg-Lok.Tap to open in glossary → and Virochan both went to Brahmaji to study.
So Brahmaji said, "Go, graze these cows, serve the ashramashram1) Stage of life. He made them perform penance.
He made them perform penance, and then they performed penance for almost 32 years.
After performing penance, both IndraIndraThe king of the devs. He resides in Svarg-Lok.Tap to open in glossary → and Virochan returned and said, "Grandfather, tell us about self-knowledge."
Tell us what spirituality is.
Tell us the essence of spirituality.
Tell us about self-knowledge. So grandfather said, "Self-knowledge, this body is the soul."
Just protect it.
Don't observe Ekadashi.
So protect it, feed it, give it drinks, adorn it, do that.
Then that is the soul.
So both of them went back to contemplate on it.
Both were going home.
So Virochan became very happy, and IndraIndraThe king of the devs. He resides in Svarg-Lok.Tap to open in glossary → had a doubt.
The soul that grandfather spoke of, this one gets sick.
And it dies, and we have heard that the soul does not get sick.
Its mood doesn't go up and down.
The soul remains in one mood.
But we have mood swings, don't we?
So, I've heard that its mood doesn't go up and down, so what should I understand about this?
So he had a doubt, and IndraIndraThe king of the devs. He resides in Svarg-Lok.Tap to open in glossary → came back.
And Virochan left.
Virochan left.
So it seems that the investigative tendency is itself mumukshutva (desire for liberation).
Of truth.
To research reality is the attitude of mumukshutva.
And to feel good about what is good, and to feel bad about what is bad, that is a divine sentiment.
If it is divine, then from a superficial perspective, even if it is a great demon, it seems good.
He performs very good yagnas.
He performs very good penance.
Then he realizes his inclination, that this is not a divine inclination, but a demonic one, yet he doesn't turn back.
So, being easily deceived at first glance is a divine sentiment.
And if one is a mumukshumumukshuA person in search of moksh.Tap to open in glossary →, they will not be deceived.
