All those who do seva, it is called nishtha (devotion).
So,
So what is the difference between devoted service and just service?
He should be on our side.
Such service is not good.
He should have an interest in it.
If one is serving but has no interest,
If they are forced into service by grabbing their ear.
Then,
That, 'Come on, you have to do this.'
If they have been forced by grabbing their ear and putting a rope on them.
Have you seen a bull being roped?
You haven't even seen a bull, have you?
They grab the bull's ear and put a rope on it, saying, 'Come on, you have to walk.'
For how long?
For the whole life.
You have to walk.
Then that is not called devotion.
If they make you do it by grabbing your ear.
So what is called devotion?
Huh?
It has become abhinivesh (deep attachment).
He should have an interest, a deep attachment, that no, I want to do this only.
Even if someone stops him, he cannot stay without serving.
Then that is called devotion.
Otherwise, it is not devotion.
And favor.
Both things.
When both things are there.
One becomes devoted.
If there is an interest in service.
And there is no favor.
Then,
Salvation happens, but it is called incomplete.
Devotion is called incomplete.
God does grant salvation; if there is refuge, then He does grant salvation.
But his devotion is called incomplete; it is not called firm devotion.
What is needed to keep a side?
Bravery.
Bravery is needed.
Courage is needed.
If one wants to openly take a side, then one needs courage to answer everyone.
To have courage.
If someone says, 'Brother, you are like this and like that,' then.
He needs the courage to answer.
Then the side remains.
Otherwise, it won't remain.
He gets suppressed and sits in a corner.
He has an interest in serving.
He enjoys serving, and he has that desire.
But if there is no courage?
The side does not remain.
He needs courage.
And if there is only courage but no interest, then that side is just.
Such a side is just helpful, it's called help.
It is not called devotion.
Don't we help someone, like helping a poor person?
That doesn't mean we are devoted to the poor.
We helped.
If there is one of them.
If there is one of them, then his salvation will happen.
Salvation will happen.
But if there is devotion, then it is not special.
Huh?
All these householders get bread.
Then why do they run more and more after money?
Huh?
Bread is readily available; one can get bread even with a little money.
Then,
But there is no fun in just that much bread.
If there is more money, then there is more fun.
Similarly, this devotee does not feel 'aho aho' (great joy).
He doesn't enjoy this birth.
God does grant salvation through me.
When he goes home in the evening, the bread is already made.
But they haven't made all those pizzas.
And if there is money at home, then pizzas are made.
So he doesn't enjoy this.
He doesn't feel 'aho aho'.
He doesn't get the feeling of being completely fulfilled.
And the other person feels that by doing this, he has achieved complete fulfillment.
He doesn't need to change.
What is the difference between having glory and not having glory?
Huh?
There is no desire to change.
Some people feel like doing this only. They tell others, 'You go and do this.'
Then your well-being will also be good.
And if he doesn't have his own glory, he says, 'Don't do this; I have already done more than I should have.'
You don't do this; I have already done more than I should have.
How?
If there is a side and no service and dedication, then it is understandable that there is no 'aho aho'.
But if there is service and dedication, and no side, then 'aho aho' still happens, right?
There is no courage.
Yes.
Oh,
So what is the meaning of 'aho aho'?
He can openly expound on it.
He cannot openly expound if he doesn't have the courage.
If he himself doesn't believe in his own perfection and doesn't feel 'aho aho', then he cannot openly expound it in the world.
And that one openly expounds.
Then, the courtiers of Hamtiyala and Virshiyaladiya said that Swaminarayan Bhagwan's, Swaminarayan Bhagwan's...
Then they don't back down.
They give an open answer.
He must have had some courage.
It must have been within him.
If there is no courage, one cannot keep it outside.
And if there is no inclination for service and dedication, one cannot keep it inside, perhaps one can keep it outside.
Cannot keep it inside.
Both inside and outside are needed.
Then there is devotion, otherwise not.
Devotion means until death.
Interest until death, dedication and service, and allegiance until death.
If one dies while maintaining such, then it's a horse, but if that doesn't break, then it's called devotion. What does devotion mean?
Death
Death.
Nishtham gatah.
It comes in that one, right?
These stories are in Sanskrit, right? In the Panchatantra, like that.
Sanishtam gatah.
Meaning, it's finished.
When there is a devotee of God and another, then one takes the side of God.
It is said to take the side of God's devotee only.
Where to everyone?
Where to do everyone?
If devotees of God are just devotees, then two might be fighting each other.
If two equally devoted devotees are fighting, then what?
Then one should stand in between and not let them fight.
Even then, it is considered that he took God's side.
Don't let both fight.
Then God will be pleased, won't he?
If he says, 'If they are fighting, let them die,' and moves away, then he hasn't taken anyone's side, nor has he taken God's side.
And if both are fighting, if they are equally devoted, then take God's side, saying it's good if they don't fight, then God looks good.
But if he runs away from there, it looks good for him.
If both are equal, then they should sit in reconciliation.
That, brother, don't do this.
If there are parents in a family and children are fighting, then what?
So what do the parents do?
They run away to another house, saying, 'You fight.'
They go to live in another house.
Or what do they do?
Some stand in the middle. They stand in the middle.
Some run away, like that.
Some take sides if they have a strong affection.
But if both are equal, then what do they do?
They stand in the middle.
Not everyone will say.
Come on, what do you need and what do you need?
Then it is said that he took his side.
If both are equal, he says, 'Whose side should I take in this? I'll just leave.'
Then such a flaw in devotion is seen.
Vidurji thought to himself that these Kauravas and Pandavas are fighting.
And both are my nephews.
So Vidurji said, 'Now I...'
What did he do?
He set out on a pilgrimage.
He set out on a pilgrimage.
There, he handed over the charge to Duryodhana and set out on a pilgrimage.
So he is called a devotee, but not with the same devotion as Arjuna.
Vidurji didn't stop being a devotee; to go on a pilgrimage, only a devotee goes, or does someone else go?
Only good devotees go, right?
So he has an interest in devotion, but he didn't have the courage to say, 'Stop, I will fight for this.'
He didn't have such courage.
Arjuna showed such courage, saying, 'I will fight even with Bhishma Pitamah.'
And I will fight even with Dronacharya.
How much did he take the side of both?
Both of them fought against him.
He needs courage, right?
He needs moral courage within; he should feel that these are truly right.
Krishna is true.
So if he says it, there's no problem in doing it.
So, without knowing Krishna, that cannot happen.
Both recognition and courage are needed.
Recognition is needed.
Courage comes from acquaintance.
If there is no acquaintance, there is no courage.
Acquaintance.
Here Maharaj has used the word Nishtha.
In the Sampraday also, the word Nishtha
What is the original word?
Tha gati nivrut.
Tha gati nivrut.
Steadfastness, it does not move at all.
If someone moves it, it does not move.
From the service of God, from the devotion to God, and from the side of God, if someone tries to shake him, he will not waver.
He won't go back and forth, but he won't even budge from there.
Cessation from movement, cessation.
So, cessation of movement, and in that, complete Nish. This pillar, if someone shakes it, does it move?
This pillar, if someone shakes it, does it move?
A cement pillar, if you shake it, it won't move.
If a buffalo's peg is driven in, and you shake it like this, it moves a little.
Do you know what a buffalo's peg is called?
Huh?
To Swamiji
Have you seen a buffalo or not?
If a peg is driven in, it moves if you shake it, but does this pillar move?
But does this pillar move?
Then it is called Nishtha.
He becomes so steadfast in that.
One who has such a side of God,
who has such devotion to God,
and has such an interest in the service of God,
then he is like a pillar.
That is called Nishtha.
If someone does anything, it won't move.
Stha gati nivrut, that is steadfastness.
And the meaning of Nishtha can also be death.
These are the meanings of all the words.
How to take it in this?
How to reduce it in the path of God? That is what we have to think about.
This is just a dictionary meaning.
Here Maharaj has used the word Nishtha.
In the Sampraday, the word Nishtha
Maharaj said in the original Vachanamrut,
that if someone has a deficiency in their devotion to God and God's devotee, then even if I go to do good for them, it won't happen.
He said that even if God does good, it won't happen.
In the Sampraday also, the word Nishtha is very glorious and famous.
What is this Nishtha?
So, the general meaning of Nishtha is the absence of movement, the end of movement, cessation, end of life, up to death, these are the meanings.
That meaning is Naishthik Brahmachari.
The word Nishtha is used in it.
A Brahmachari with Nishtha, what does that mean?
A Brahmachari without Nishtha and one with Nishtha.
There are four types of Brahmacharis.
Not all are Naishthik Brahmacharis; there are Upakurvan and all those.
So, what is a Naishthik Brahmachari?
Brahmacharis have vows and imaginations, they are in the ashram.
Even if life goes away, he does not let go of his vows.
Even if life goes away, he does not let go of his vows, that is called a Naishthik Brahmachari.
Even if his life goes away, he does not let go of his side.
Even if life goes away, he does not miss service and devotion.
Then he develops Nishtha in God and in God's devotee.
The meaning of Nishtha.
So all meanings are included in it.
Even death is included.
Cessation of movement is also included.
Even if the soul leaves and the soul should leave, even if the soul leaves, this does not go.
So it is called Nishtha.
Keeping that meaning in mind, it is used in the Sampraday in a specific emotional excess.
Such devotees were there during Maharaj's time and even after that.
Even if life goes away, he gives his life but does not leave Maharaj's side.
He does not leave Maharaj's service.
Such devotees.
So they were called devotees with Nishtha.
Maharaj has given names to Kashidas, right?
Yamaraj Shah is there.
He has given the names of Emraj Shah, Kashidas, and all of them.
Damodar.
Kashidas.
Rajput Galluji
The Kathis of Gundali village, Maharaj has named all of them.
They were such that even if their life left, they would not give up their resolve.
It can't be done without courage, can it?
So, a little courage is needed.
Keeping that meaning in mind, it is used in a special emotional sense in the Sampraday.
The word has become 'respectable'.
In the Sampraday, the word 'nishtha' is 'respectable'.
He has 'nishtha', so that's it, nothing more is needed than that.
And one without 'nishtha' becomes zero.
He has no standing.
Keeping that meaning in mind, it is used in a special emotional sense in the Sampraday. For example, 'naishthik brahmachari' simply means one who observes the vow of lifelong celibacy, meaning even if their life leaves, they will not let go of their vow, then they are called a 'naishthik brahmachari'.
That is, one who has the vow to observe celibacy until death is called a 'naishthik brahmachari'.
Similarly, the ultimate dedication of life towards God or a devotee of God is called 'nishtha'.
To die for a goal or for God, and to live for Him, it is easier to die in both these things.
But to keep the goal ahead throughout life, he said, 'ghadiyan ni ghamsan'.
Sati Sura ko sahel hai ghadiyan ki ghamsan.
The open hearth of love burns for eight watches.
To live for God, one has to be careful throughout life, if there is no miss anywhere, then this 'nishtha' is proven. And to die is a moment's struggle, a very brave person dies in battle and gets written on the pages of history.
But a devotee of God has to live his whole life, and if a black mark appears somewhere in between,
Like Akrurji, Akrurji was a very good devotee, but when he saw that golden jewel, the Syamantak Mani, he thought, 'If I steal this, it will be useful for my son.'
So he took it and ran away.
Therefore, it cannot be called devotion to Lord Shri Krishna.
That much 'nishtha' cannot be said.
He is called a devotee.
Akrurji and Vidurji are both called devotees.
But it cannot be called 'nishtha'.
Why not call it 'nishtha'?
Because he did everything his whole life, but he got a little involved with that jewel.
So, a clean sheet cannot be given.
Keeping that meaning in mind, it is used in a special emotional sense in the Sampraday.
For example, 'naishthik brahmachari' simply means one who observes the vow of lifelong celibacy.
That is, one who has the vow to observe celibacy until death is called a 'naishthik brahmachari'.
Similarly, the ultimate dedication of life towards God or a devotee of God is called 'nishtha'.
It requires confidence and self-confidence.
How much self-confidence does one need to maintain this throughout life, to say, 'Yes, I will do it, I will see it through'?
Otherwise, it will be consumed.
Otherwise, it will be seen through.
So, he needs confidence, self-confidence, only then can he do it.
Such a difficult vow can only be taken then, otherwise not.
To die for a goal or for God, and to live for Him, it is easier to die in both these things.
If a person has taken a vow for a moment, then in a moment, if there is a war and he is a brave warrior, he will go to the battle and finish it.
So it's easy for him.
But to maintain it throughout life, and if there is a slight negligence and it gets missed, then the whole thing is cancelled.
Your paper of 'nishtha' has been cancelled.
The certificate of 'nishtha' was cancelled.
So, 'nishtha' happens when both dying and living are present.
Goal or God
To die for it and to live for it, dying is easier in both these things.
But to keep the goal ahead throughout life and to live only for it, and to die while living for it, that is called Nishtha.
That was in Arjuna's life.
At the time of Maharaj, Yamraj Shah, Kashidas, Damodar, all those whose names Maharaj took, that was in all their lives.
Others who later became devotees, they had that.
If someone keeps it now, it remains like that.
It's just about making a decision, what else?
To die or to live, to kill or to let live, that is in God's hands.
One should not tremble from within and decide to die easily.
To kill and to let live, that is in God's hands, isn't it?
Whom to kill and whom not to let live.
That is God, but one cannot have such courage in the mind.
Whether I can do this or not.
If one can be courageous in mind, why can't one be courageous?
Such glory of God has not been filled in his soul.
When the glory of God fills the soul and is understood.
Why do people die for money?
Why, if they die, it's a sacrifice, but they die for it.
Its glory has been filled in his soul from birth to birth, that nothing works without money.
So even if we die, it's fine.
But if we get that, it works.
Similarly, if the glory of God fills one's soul, then it happens, otherwise it doesn't.
To die and to live, if a brave person kills, what is that called Nishtha?
What were you saying?
Those who are brave cannot tolerate it, Hanuman would just throw it down.
Oh, that's incomplete Nishtha.
Killing someone else is not Nishtha, dying oneself is.
If one becomes brave and kills someone, it doesn't mean that he has Nishtha.
But if one dies while supporting God's side, then this Nishtha is firm.
If one kills someone while supporting God's side, it doesn't mean that he has Nishtha.
That is called being good at fighting.
That is called being good at fighting.
If he kills someone.
But not killing someone else.
To sacrifice oneself.
Then it is called Nishtha.
By taking a side.
What were you saying?
Yes.
If someone is good at fighting, they might hit two or three others.
So there's no Nishtha in that, they just hit like that.
Then all the goons would be considered to have Nishtha, they put so many people in their place.
For God, one sacrifices their own life.
Even then.
There's bravery in that too, you saw bravery in fighting, hitting someone doesn't just happen like that.
The goal is to die for God and to live for Him.
In both these things, dying is easier.
But to keep the goal ahead throughout life and to live only for it, and to die while living for it, that is called Nishtha.
To endure the obstacles that come with a smiling face, that is called Nishtha.
Not by doing something.
That I am serving, and I suffered so much loss, and I got nothing, and my life was wasted.
Then even if one does it, Nishtha does not happen.
With a smiling face, saying that my work has come.
My work has come.
Even if it's like that, it's called Nishtha.
Arjuna felt that in his mind.
What did Yudhishthira feel in his mind?
It went wrong.
They won, but they were troubled, this was very wrong.
They won, and they followed Lord Shri Krishna, so he put us in our place.
But this didn't turn out very well, a lot went wrong.
And Arjuna felt in his mind that a great deed was done.
So Arjuna's Nishtha was counted, Yudhishthira Maharaj also had Shri Krishna with him.
Even then, it was not considered Nishtha.
Lord Shri Krishna held my arm and did a lot.
He did wrong.
Such
It would have been better if he hadn't done this.
That's what Yudhishthira Maharaj thought.
What does it mean to die while living?
For him, it means to die while living, to be consumed by something.
To die while living means to be consumed while living.
To be consumed for the sake of the principle, for the service and dedication to God, for God's side.
That's its name.
To endure the obstacles that come with a smiling face is called devotion.
Maharaj said that for a devotee who has faith in God and the saints, even time and karma combined cannot do anything wrong to them.
If such devotion comes into one's soul, then even if their time is difficult, and they have committed very terrible karma, even if they have committed their own terrible karma, it cannot spoil their satsang, it cannot spoil their welfare.
Even if they have committed terrible karma,
Such is the power of this devotion.
No matter how many gather, how many obstacles came upon Arjuna.
Bhishma Pitamah and Dronacharya were all forms of time.
But even then, all of them together could not spoil anything of Arjuna's.
Everyone gathers.
Because he had kept Lord Shri Krishna.
So no matter what kind of deceit, treachery, or whatever they do,
Among them, Bhishma Pitamah and Dronacharya were both forms of time.
They were such that even time could not remove them.
And he had started against them.
Prahladji had started against Hiranyakashipu, and Hiranyakashipu was the time of the entire universe.
He was like that.
So all of them together could not even touch a hair on his body.
And they can't do anything in this world either, otherwise Maharaj said that they can't spoil his welfare in this world.
They cannot do him harm, meaning they cannot spoil his welfare.
They cannot diminish his satsang.
Hiranyakashipu could not diminish Prahlad's satsang at all.
Arjuna had the support of Lord Shri Krishna, so even when all those others gathered, they could not diminish anything.
They can't do anything.
Everyone thought, "What will happen?"
Every now and then, it felt like, "They're gone, all these Pandavas are dead, the Pandavas are dead."
Something like that happened.
Not a single thing happened.
They escaped unharmed, not a single one was lost.
Not even one was lost.
So Maharaj says, they cannot do him harm.
Even if everyone gathers.
So, in satsang, it means they cannot do harm in the path of satsang, nor can they do harm in the path of this world.
Then, if there is complete devotion, God does not let anything happen in this world either. Even if something in this world is lost, it's fine. Maharaj has used the word in this context, and it is said in the Setumala commentary.
Its meaning is 100% this.
And 90% that.
In that, 10% is that.
Perhaps in this world, it might seem to people that there is some small loss happening somewhere.
In that, there is no loss at all.
Lord Shri Krishna said, "Either you will attain heaven, or if you win, you will enjoy the earth." You have both options. Even if you die, if you die by my word, you will attain heaven, which is greater than this.
And if he won, God did not let him die.
He wasn't allowed to die.
Lord Krishna was not paying attention to Prahlad, Lord Krishna was with Arjuna, but Lord was not paying attention to Prahlad, but still, he did not let him die.
He wouldn't let any harm come to him.
But first, such courage, advanced courage, is needed.
It's not that after it's done, you think, "My great work is done." No, you need advanced courage to believe that God will do it this way.
You need a little advanced courage, don't you?
You should put it at stake, shouldn't you?
And when advanced courage comes, that is called devotion.
If someone jumps around after the work is done, that's not called devotion.
It's called joy.
If God does his work and then he jumps around, that's called joy, it's good, no problem, at least he felt that much joy, so it's like he said thank you to God.
But that advanced courage is needed. Even before God has done the work, he should say, "My work will be done."
Hemraj Shah and all of them were like that.
He says, "Maharaj is going to do my work."
Narsinh Mehta and God's
Then he said that my mameru and everything will be done. He had advance courage.
Shastriji Maharaj established the Gurukul.
Mameru never faltered, no matter how difficult the work was.
God used to do advanced work, he used to do advanced work.
So Malipaji himself has faith in God.
And those who know God get advance courage.
