That is called choosing. That of prapatti, 'shadvidha sharanagati' like that. So, 'Anukulyasya sankalpah pratikulyasya varjanam rakshishyatiti vishwaso goptrutva varanam tatha.' Goptrutva varanam means this. Goptrutva varan means, 'You are my protector.' My protection, the protection of my jiva, I cannot do it, I cannot do it under any circumstances. Therefore, I have no other way. You are the only way I have, that You save me. I have not done anything for You to save me, I have not done any favor, one must believe this in one's mind. Not just speak it. If it is believed in the mind that we have not performed any such spiritual endeavors that we may attain Akshardham and get a chance in Bhagwan's seva, we have no such qualification. Now, what qualification? Still, if we want to attain it, what to do? Then pray to Bhagwan. Bhagwan is very merciful, extremely compassionate. If someone prays to Him, He forgets everything else. If someone praises us, we forget everything else, in the same way, if someone prays to Bhagwan, Bhagwan forgets everything. If someone praises us twice, even if they do it falsely, then? We forget everything and shower them with favors. In the same way, if someone prays to Bhagwan, then Bhagwan forgets all our past. And gives a place in His seva. Therefore, that is called 'goptrutva varan'. It is one limb of the sixfold sharanagati. Sharanagati in six ways, it does not mean it happens in six ways, but when six means are combined, it becomes a strong sharanagati. Among them, number one is this goptrutva varan. Goptrutva varan means to pray to Bhagwan with exclusive feeling. What is meant by exclusive feeling? Not to pray to anyone else. If they pray to Bhagwan, and then pray elsewhere, and then at a third place, then Bhagwan does not come to such a shared field. If they pray to Swaminarayan Bhagwan, and elsewhere, and at a third place, and at a fourth place, wherever they find, then Swaminarayan Bhagwan does not come. Exclusive prayer, they pray to Him alone. 'I have no other, I have not seen anywhere else.' 'Nav ke kag ki gati bhai mori.' What does that mean? For the crow, there is no other way except the ship. Is there no acacia stump? Not in the ocean. In the ocean, if it has gone far into the middle of the ocean, and the crow has sat sat 1) True. Real. 2) Permanent, imperishable and unchanging. Is unbound by the past, the present, and the future. Tap to open in glossary → on the sail, and the ship started moving and reached the middle of the ocean, then if it looks in all four directions, there is only water. Therefore, 'Nav ke kag ki gati bhai mori.' When we feel that way towards Maharaj, then we have to take refuge in Maharaj, it must be believed in the mind. That we do perform spiritual endeavors to please Bhagwan, to please Him we must do it. But if we perform spiritual endeavors and weigh them, then that does not come in it, nothing comes, not even a straw. Therefore, exclusive surrender, that is called prayer. That is called 'goptrutva varan'. 'Anukulyasya sankalpah pratikulyasya varjanam rakshishyatiti vishwaso goptrutva varanam tatha.' So to Bhagwan, Bhagwan is such that if no one prays to Him, He does not just come on His own and deliver us. A mother may serve food without being asked, but Bhagwan keeps this much, that one must ask of Him. One must ask of Him with humility. Therefore, two great characteristics of sharanagati are mentioned. One is exclusive refuge. Nowhere else. Whether they are cheap or expensive, still no. Even if it is expensive and difficult, only here, if we die, we die here, nowhere else. That is called exclusive refuge. And destitute. No strength of spiritual endeavors, not a trace of one's own ego. Not a trace, before Bhagwan. Before others, they may roll up their sleeves. But before Bhagwan, no strength of spiritual endeavors. If there is an exclusive devotee of Bhagwan, then before him also, do not have much ego, be humble before him. Then that is called exclusive refuge. Though it happens by six, but if one cannot remember all six, it is fine, but Bhagwan, the authors of scriptures said that even if one keeps these two, it is enough, exclusive refuge. Therefore, 'goptrutva varan'. 'Atmanikshepa karpanyam shadvidha sharanagati.' Then 'atmanikshep' means to surrender one's jiva. Not the body. Not even, 'I will do as You say with my mind.' No right of mine over my jiva. Over my jiva, this is Your owned property. To surrender our jiva to Bhagwan. And still, that 'akarpanyam'. 'Karpanyam', 'atmanikshepa karpanyam'. Still, do not walk with head held high, 'I have given it to You, so why are You not taking care of it?' 'We do this much, so should You not do this much?' Not like that, but with humility. 'Bhagwan, please take our turn.' 'While taking others' turns, when You get time, please take our turn.' 'I gave this much, so why are You not looking at me?' 'Who else will give to You next time?' If there are some capable devotees, they might say that, but we do not have the status to say so. Such a sixfold sharanagati is described. And through it, one goes to Bhagwan's abode and attains seva, that is called attainment. And when one goes to Bhagwan's abode, all this trouble is resolved, so that is called mukti mukti To become free. Kalyãn. Moksh. Other than that, nothing else comes into his understanding. That Ramsukhdas Swami spoke very well. That if there is a small child, a six-month-old or a year-old child, who knows nothing, does not even know its own name. At most, it might know its name. But whom does it recognize? Only its mother. Now, if there is some gathering and they all went there, and this child got separated. And it is crying. And in the gathering, 100, 200, 300 women have come. And all have come well-dressed and adorned. This child is screaming, 'My mother, my mother, my mother' like that. So then some kind people carry the child and go into the crowd of women, 'Which of these is your mother?' So all 200-300 would be mothers, right? Some have one, two, three, some have many, a whole line, so they are all mothers. So all are mothers, but still does the child call everyone mother? If another says, 'Come,' then even if it is crying, it shrugs its shoulders, 'Not me.' 'This is not my mother.' 'This is not my mother.' Even if its mother has come poorly dressed, then? Then it immediately runs. Then it kicks the one who was carrying it. 'Now I don't want to stay with you.' 'Now my mother has come.' It has only one mother, all others are not its mother. Generally, all with the title of mother are mothers, but for this child, there is only one mother. In the same way, that is called exclusive refuge. That is called sharanagati. If Swaminarayan Bhagwan alone seems like a mother to us, if we have chosen Him like a mother, selected Him, then we are said to have taken refuge in Swaminarayan Bhagwan. There might be 200-300 mothers, all are mothers, but that child does not call anyone mother, absolutely no one. All these say, 'These are all mothers.' But the child believes in its mind, 'None of them is my mother.' There is only one mother, she is lost somewhere in this. So, that is called sharanagati. Even if other mothers are very good and beautiful, still the child does not go anywhere, does not extend its hand towards them. Even if another mother extends her hand, this child does not extend its hand. So, that is called sharanagati. That is called exclusive refuge. And if that happens towards Maharaj, then we get Maharaj's seva in Akshardham, is that what is meant? All others might be extending hands, if someone plays a rattle, then? If someone plays a rattle to the child like this. Today's children are not such as to be pleased by a rattle, by what are they pleased? Mobile. If a mobile is held out like this? If a good mobile is held out, what do they do? Then they forget the mother, like that. Then, then it is not called exclusive sharanagati. Even if 10 rattles are played and 10 mobiles are shown, keeping a line like this, still if it does not go there, does not extend its hand, then it is said to have attained exclusive refuge.
